AAW invites Colorado women to join new Colorado affiliate

Jan. 7, 2010, Manhattan, KS (AgPR)—Are you concerned about the anti-agriculture activist groups that are gaining prominence in Colorado? It’s happening all over the nation, according to Chris Wilson, the newly-elected president of American Agri-Women.

“Agriculture is under siege from these big and powerful groups, who have the money and connections to push their agenda,” said Wilson of Manhattan, KS, “and that’s why farm and ranch women have to respond with what we know to be the truth about agriculture.” Wilson pointed out that “One of our goals is to educate the consumer and, since we are consumers as well as producers, we sometimes need to educate ourselves.

“That is one of the advantages of joining Colorado Agri-Women,” she continued. “We are a coalition of 53 distinct organizations. Colorado will be our 21st state affiliate and we also have 33 commodity affiliates, including American National CattleWomen, American Sheep Industry Women, Women in Timber groups, fruit and vegetable growers, and many more. You can learn so much by visiting with women from different backgrounds, philosophies and geographical interests and when you join Colorado you automatically become a member of AAW.”

Wilson is meeting with organizers of a Colorado Agri-Women group in Denver, Jan. 22, at Bennett’s Bar-B-Que, 3700 Peoria, just south of I-70. The meeting will be informal with a Dutch treat lunch from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm.

Two Colorado women are lending their names to this effort: Danell Kalcevic of Bennett and Kimmi Lewis of LaJunta. For more information or to make reservations for lunch, contact Danell at her email address (ColoradoAgriWomen@gmail.com) or 303/910-5723.
