Consumer Education

AAW works to educate and inform the consuming public about agriculture.

National Ag Day

American Agri-Women also supports consumer education through the National Ag Day programs that occur in March every year. National Agriculture Day, celebrated each year on or around the first day of spring, March 20th, is a time to celebrate American agriculture and honor the people who work to meet our everyday needs. National Ag Day highlights the abundance provided by agriculture, the backbone of the nation’s economy. More than 22 million people work in the agriculture industry, and raising the American public’s awareness of the importance U.S. agriculture plays in the stability of the economy and in feeding the world is the goal of National Agriculture Day and National Agriculture Week The Agricultural Council of American coordinates National Ag Day activities.
The National Ag Day program has some terrific resource materials that may be found on their web site, www.agday.org.

Other Activities

Many Agri-Women chapters and affiliates plan their own state or local events during this same time period. Some chapters serve “Farmer’s Share Breakfasts” where participants may enjoy breakfast for what the farmer would receive at the farm gate. Other chapters take the opportunity to visit with and educate their state elected officials, while still others make this a time of the year to get into the classrooms with Ag-In-The Classroom visits. Whether you work on educating our youngest or oldest consumers you are helping to ensure that we continue to have a strong voice for agriculture.
